I grow organic but want to point out that there is not a scintilla of proof that organics are “healthier” than “regular” produce. Numerous tests have been conducted on the quality of produce and I have yet to find one with documented evidence that organic is better.
The only downside to organic is the lower yield. As one agronomist said, “If we were forced to use organic, we’d starve” LOL

@kentuckianagardener Wow they must be really generous. But did they hand it out because the wood was not great quality, had holes in it, or whatnot?
Comment by kentuckianagardener on 10 April 2011:
@adamberk07 yeah usually they are soy based. Generally your ok to go with black and white and avoid colors.
Comment by kentuckianagardener on 10 April 2011:
@Tsuguayme Yeah, its kind of normal around here to get free wood slabs at the mill. But cedar works great if you can get it, as it lasts several years.
Comment by Tsuguayme on 10 April 2011:
@kentuckianagardener Free wood? OMG. Why were they handing out free wood? I want some
Comment by Tsuguayme on 10 April 2011:
@adamberk07 I hear newspaper ink can be soy based but you should check with the newspaper company to find out. If it does have toxins, I think it may decompose over time.
Comment by adamberk07 on 10 April 2011:
what about the toxins from the newspaper ink?

Watch a Pre-January 8th copy of Inception. Listen closely when the actors say imagine, reality, and safe, or point pistols. You’ll hear the words, Loughner, offin’ her, part of the word Giffords, and much more. Some say they hear, do it.

Im The Kentuckiana Gardener and we also enjoy growing organically. We started our low cost raised beds by going to a sawmill and getting free wood slabs. We also grew cold crops through the winter in our little hoop house.

wooden stakes from a shop ?!
… go look in the woods for felled trees/ dropped branches … saw em up to size ..free stakes !
easiest way is planting spuds through the grass,.. brakes up the soil –grass dies down because of no light cover , the following year ye good to go. soils will be nicely nicley.
or , if you have pigs …
anyway , keep the weeds , there IS a reason they grow ..permaculture FTW.

grow organic
Comment by alkofallout on 10 April 2011:
just put organic mater or some mulch (approx 10-15cm thick) on the ground in the late autumn, then just wait for the spring to come when you need to sow your seeds. Make holes in the mulch or what’s left of it then put the seeds ya want. wait for seedlings to come, then mulch again.. this way you dont need to dig the soil and to damage to its structure.

i have an idea to keep unwanted animals in your garden put a low voltage electric fenceing electric fenceing that will not electricuite or killl the animal but it will give all animals succ a painfull and uncomfordable electric shock soo that no animals will ever eat your tomato plants ever again

On a gardening note: Ive grown some sweet Big Bang weed this winter. I used Fertilizer though. Sadly no organic dope. No gardener should be without the burning bush
